The Brakkar 02 Fusion Crisis

The Marines had been dispatched to divert a force of Orks who were closing on a scientific research station devoted to developing new portable fusion power technology. Should the site be destroyed, mobile forges traversing the planet would run the risk of running out of power, leaving only traditional static forges operational, which could be quickly overwhelmed by hostile forces.

The Battle

Highlights include the Marine Scouts charging into the Grot mob from their infiltrated position, causing them to flee and then following up into the mob of Goff boys. The scouts then absolutely slaughtered the Goffs, taking out 5 with some amazing parry rolls. The Scouts accounted for 4 VPs by themselves, mostly from the mission parameters, since they were the only marines to get into close combat. The Bad Moons nearly destroyed one of the Marine Combat Squads, but couldn’t get them to break. Otherwise, Marine casualties were light, and mostly caused by Grot shooting, of all things.

Ultimately the Orks were driven off, but there is sufficient information to believe they will be back.

The game may have gone differently had I played one more turn, but we only rolled a 3-turn game. Also, we played the combat wrong with the Scouts, but it made for a heroic story and I’m happy to keep the results.
